Academic Blues (w/m Jim Proctor)
We all climb aboard this ride
And we leave the world outside
We sit at our desk and tie the seat belt round our chair
Prepare for liftoff to our journey in the air
And yet I wonder where we’re bound?
It’s so hard to see the ground
There’s no gravitation, we’re just floating ‘round in space
It’s time I headed home to see a human face
And yet we study ‘til we’re blind
In this academic grind
We keep our eyes glued to the book
No time to stop and take a look
At this real world spinning ‘round
It’s our own world spinning ‘round
We can’t forget our human hearts
We must not keep ourselves apart
We gotta turn this ship around, bring it closer to the ground
We must not lose ourselves in words
There is a story to be heard.
But we’ve got to listen…
